Abstract：YU Jia ju was an influential educator, scholar and social activist in Chinese modern history. This is the first essay to review YU Jia ju's thought of rural education. This essay explores that, under the influence of the democratic and scientific thought of the May 4th Movement, YU Jia ju boldly pointed out the symptoms of Chinese education and in order to save social crisis and improve education, he firstly advocated rural education campaign, put forth the practical solutions towards normal schools, rural schools and rural society.
