Abstract：Around 1903,Chinese new intellectuals observed and summarized the characteristics of the era from the perspective of nationalism and imperialism. Under the pressure of saving the nation from extinction and pursuing of modernity, they raised the problem of building up nation state for the first time in Chinese history explicitly. And they began to apply western nation state theory to build up Chinese nation state from the respects of sovereignty, nation and territory.
