Abstract:The article investigates the role evolution of film directors in contemporary China and outlines the replacement process of film directors among generations by using a sociological modei. During the replacement, the acting strategy of the new-born generation is considered very important, for it directly relates to that whether their identity could be approved by the circle. During 2001-2002, a number of new directors appeared. Although they adopted a peculiar acting strategy, their identity can not be widely approved by the circle. Under the current condition, most of the directors have already been inte-grated as the culture producers.
