Abstract：There are some rare historical materials in the pref aces and postscript s of the ancient novels, which were written by the authors or those who were rel ated to the authors or the works, or by the descendants who researched or publis hed the works. From the angle of the editing and publishing history of the nove ls, these narratives are the most active, most believable and the most important historical materials of editing and publishing, and it is very valuable for the research of the ancient Chinese history of editing and publishing. This paper s elects some brief prefaces and postscripts or related expressions from the class ifications of notes, words, chapters and collections, in order to understand the numerous historical materials of publishing and its value.
