Abstract：Advocating science is Hu Shi's basic thought. In the May Fourth Period, Hu Shi advocated the scientific mode of thought through academic research, especially Chinese traditional literature research. Hu Shi proposed literature revolution and criticized new literature. Generally speaking, Hu Shi's literature criticism have scientific character. Paying attention to language,narrative and structure of works, it emphasized the form of literature. Meanwhile, it discussed and explained the content of literature objectively. On these basis, it evaluated literature works impartially. There is an unite between Hu Shi's thought of science and his literature criticism. Hu Shi's scientific literature criticim should influence future Chinese literature criticism.
