Abstract：The paper firstly recaps the diagnosis of the current society: in a thoroughly commodified society,fetishism,which leads to the fetish of images nowadays,invades all spheres of life;post-ideological consensus characterizes our times;thus,there is crisis in the humanities.Secondly,through the analysis of the theories of Karl Marx,Sigmund Freud,Georg Lukcas and Fredric Jameson and others on relevant issues,it proposes to the reader that the contemporary cultural critics should act as uncompromisingly critical ones to reveal the repressed,distorted constituent in capitalist culture,to deal with the crisis in the humanities and cultural distraction.In the last part,it offers a tentative reading of the successful Chinese film Hero by applying the above-discussed critical theory.
