Abstract：Merchant movement is one part of the mass movement in the new situation promoted in 1924.But the merchant movement sprung up a little later than the mass movement did.At first KMT payed a little attention to merchant movement,not because that the bourgeoisie did not care the politics before 1920's and did not work in those struggles,but because that KMT itself knew little about the bourgeoisie,such as their status and affect in the state,sometimes even had some prejudices against them.As the development of the mass movement and the demostic political situation,more and more members in KMT found that it was necessary to encourage the merchant,especially the petty bourgeoisie to join the political struggles.The view was reflected clearly in the Second National Congress of KMT,which promoted the late merchant movement.
