Does Educational Inequality Affect the Income Distribution Effect of Financial Development？——Empirical Research Based on Provincial Panel Data in China

Abstract：Based on the panel data of 25 provinces and cities in China from 1999 to 2015， this paper empirically tests the influence of educational inequality on the relationship between financial development and income distribution. The results show that the development of formal finance is conducive to narrowing the income gap， while the development of informal finance is not conducive to narrowing the income gap； the reduction of educational inequality can narrow the income gap； the higher the level of educational inequality， the more negative impact of the development of formal finance and informal finance on income distribution. Therefore， we should attach importance to the coordination and matching between educational equality and financial development， and establish the interest linkage mechanism between financial departments and educational training institutions to narrow the income gap among residents.
