Abstract：After the founding of The People’s Republic of China， Mr. Zhang Shunhui studied the theory of Marxism history seriously， and used it through his research work. He paid attention to the major theoretical issues such as the stages of ancient Chinese society， made a scientific analysis of the living conditions and social status of each class. He fully recognized that the working people are the creators of material and spiritual civilization， and the people's resistance to the oppression of the ruling class is the driving force for social progress. In the evaluation of historical figures， political figures should be evaluated according to the standards that conform to the needs of the situation， figures in ideological and cultural circles should be evaluated according to the standards of carrying forward cultural traditions， and other historical figures should be evaluated by standards that promote the well-being of society. In the study of philology， he revealed that the Chinese characters preserve the pictures of the social life in ancient China， and the simplification of glyph has inevitability in the historical development. His academic thought that “everything must be ruled by historical materialism” is really to be worthed by the posterity history researchers.
