Abstract:A Vegetation Phenology Adjust Urban Index (VPAUI) was proposed and applied to the monitoring of the expansion of built-up areas in Central China. Firstly, VPAUI was constructed by desaturating the NTL data using vegetation phonological parameters. Secondly, the linear relationship model between built-up fraction and VPAUI was established. Finally, the long-term time-series monitoring was carried out using the VAPUI index in provincial capitals of Wuhan, Changsha and Nanchang in the Central China. The results show that built-up fraction based on VPAUI is able to better solve the intensity saturation problem in nighttime light, and effectively identify the hot spot of urban expansion.
