Study on the relationship between surface drought and urban surface heat island in Poyang Lake Area

Abstract:This study focused on drought and urbanization in Poyang Lake Area, south of China. Ten Landsat5 TM and Lansat8 OLI/TIRS Remote Sensing images acquired between 1995 and 2016 are used. The temperature/vegetation index (TVDI) and the normalized Surface Urban Heat Island (SUHI) intensity are used to monitor the drought and urban heat island conditions, respectively. And then, spatial statistical analysis and correlation analysis methods are used to explore the influence of surface drought on urban heat island in the study area. Results show that: 1) TVDI has obvious indication in the land use types of dry land and bare land; 2) the SUHI intensity is changed with the seasonal variations, and is stronger in summer and autumn, while weaker in winter. Besides, urban sprawl has no significant impact on the normalized SUHI intensity; 3) in addition, the surface drought has significant positive correlation with the SUHI intensity.
