Abstract:Built-up area reflects the development of modern cities, and its change is an important parameter of spatial distribution and economy. In this study, we proposed a monitor method for extracting built-up area in Jiangxi province with combination of multi-temporal Landsat images and DMSP/OLS (Defense Meteorological Satellites Program/Operational Linescan System) data. The spatial accuracy of the extraction result achieved 89.7%. The dynamics showed that the built-up area had increased 1 276.33 km2 from 1995 to 2014, and the expansion rate reached 423.99%. The relationship between urban expansion and economic growth was also explored and it concluded that the area of built-up area expansion was highly correlated with the increase of economy (R2=0.62). Furthermore, after the establishment of Poyang Lake Eco-Economic Zone, there's a significant increase in economy and urban expansion of cities within the zone.
