Research on conceptual model and process of regional spatial networking——taking the Pan Yangtze River Delta for example

Abstract:Regional spatial networking is the inevitable trend of spatial organization evolution. The Pan Yangtze River Delta, as the giant regional space, will be the key area for optimization of the spatial pattern of economic development and the typical case area of the study on spatial networking. First of all, based on the existing research basis, the conceptual model hypothesis of regional spatial networking are proposed, and then the 41 spatial prefecture-level cities are used as the basic research unit, through modifying the spatial interaction model and the potential model to calculate urban potential and inter-city economic link strength in the 1996, 2002, 2008, 2014. In the same time, from the three dimensions of the node-axis-network the space networking process and characteristics of the Pan Yangtze River Delta region are analyzed by using the social network analysis method (SNA) and the inverse distance weight interpolation method (IDW). The results show that: 1) during the period from 1996 to 2014, the urban potentials increased significantly in the region with the inter-city links strengthened and the spatial correlations becoming more complicated, and the network density in the Pan Yangtze River Delta area increased continuously; 2) the development level of the city elevated from low to high, and the spatial structure changed from single to multi-center, urban hierarchical system to partial flat characteristics, spatial correlation from isolation to networking; 3) the process of the Pan-Yangtze River Delta network has gone through four distinct phases: from single-center clustering model, point-axis diffusion model, core-edge model to multi-center network model. Finally, Discussion on mechanism of regional spatial networking in the Pan Yangtze River. On the one hand, the typical regional spatial integration and its morphological evolution process are described, and the spatial network theory of regional spatial structure theory is studied. On the other hand, theoretical support is provided on the regional economic integration of Yangtze River Economic Zone and the construction of the Yangtze River Delta city group.
