Research on spatial identification of ecological space in national key ecological function regions based on GIS:a case study of Changyang County in Hubei Province,China

Abstract:Ecological space is of great significance for maintaining regional ecological security and ecological balance,so the identification of ecological spaces is the basis of regional ecological protection. Taking the soil and water conservation ecological function zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area in the national key ecological function region as the case area,the Changyang Tujia Autonomous County is used as a case study. According to local conditions,the evaluation indicators were selected,and spatial information technology based on RS and GIS were used to evaluate the importance of ecosystem services and the sensitivity of ecosystem. So the ecological space of the national key ecological function regions were identified and put forward the ideas and measures of zoning and hierarchical management of ecological space briefly. And thenthe land use conflicts in the critical ecological space were analyzed based on current land use types. The results are shownas follows.1)The area of ecological space in Changyang County was 3,032.21 km2,accounting for 88.66% of the study area; the urgent ecological space was 1,406.79 km2,accounting for 41.14% of the total area; the crisis ecological space was 862.59 km2, accounting for 25.22% of the total area; and the crucial ecological space was 862.83 km2,accounting for 22.31% of the total area.2) In the analysis of current land use types, about 17.11% of cultivated land and 0.23% construction land of non-ecological land are located in ecological spaces. It is difficult to play a positive role in effectively maintaining regional ecological security to a certain extent,and it is not conducive to maintaining the stability of ecological space.3)The urgent ecological space is managed in principle in accordance with prohibited development zones, with the crisis ecological space compulsorily controlled, and the crucial ecological space is restricted in development. This research would provide a scientific basis for the division and optimization of the ecological protection red line and the management and control of ecological space classification at the current stage, with a view to achieving the organic unification of county ecological protection and economic development.
