Abstract：For a system of the neutron-proton interacting boson model, there exist two symmetric state approximations. They are related to the definitions of the neutron-and proton-boson operators. In terms of a simple model calculation we compare the energy spectrum of these symmetric states with the exact result of the neutron-proton interacting boson model.
