Abstract Retrospecting to the history of rural governance, the paper reconsiders the concept of rural governance and tries to restructure a possible paradigm of the research about rural governance, namely a comprehensive study on the politics, economy, society and culture development in the rural areas. Within this definition, this paper makes a tentative outline about the methods and stages of establishing a paradigm for rural governance study.
