Abstract Water, as a cultural image, is depicted in Xu Hun's poems. The objective reason for this is that the places he lived were full of water; and the subjective reason is that the poet exploited image of water to express his feelings, for water is an important primitive image in Chinese traditional culture. Accordingly, there are two categories of water in Xu Hun's poems: the natural water and the imaginary water.
