Abstract Based on the analysis of current situation facing Chinese rural security, the article puts forward an overall conception and some concrete countermeasures. It holds the view that improving and reinforcing rural social security is such a complex systematic social engineering that an entire program and phased enforcement are needed. At present and in the following years, we should lay more emphasis on building a mechanism to meet the needs of market economy and to raise social security funds through various channels. We should also carry out social mutual aid activities and strengthen the legislation of social security law to set up systems of basic living security, medial insurance and social endowment insurance.
