| Jing Yuan-shan and the Development of Charities in Late Qing Dynasty |

Abstract The non governmental charity activities in late Qing Dynasty have somewhat changed in the early stage of Emperor Guang Xu. It was represented by the new style charitable organizations established by Jing Yuan shan. At the end of the 19th century, influenced by the year of 1898's reform in China, new tendency appeared in the field of non governmental charity activities. In which there is new ideology and the content is broader and more versatile. The new style charities have gradually evolved to the modern social welfare activities.
