| Ancient Changjiang River Culture and the Folk Woodcut Painting |

Abstract This thesis explores the cause of its origination and development of the folk woodcut painting from the perspective of its geographical position and culture in Changjiang River area. It also proves that the ancient well developed technology such as carving, wooden printing and papermaking had brought a very good environment to cultivate and develop the local folk woodcut painting in that area. The requirement of the living style, religion, economy and related culture in Changjiang River area also helped growing and promoting this kind of art.
