Abstract Zhang Jian is one of the pioneer in the field of Chinese modern exposition career. This thesis expounds Zhang Jian's ideas on modern exposition career and his great contributions in promoting Chinese modern exposition career in details. It thinks that the exposition career pursued by Zhang Jian is one of the important career in Chinese modern history, and from which Zhang Jian's great character as both a gentry and a merchant can be seen clealy.
