Abstract Cheng Xuan ying's thoughts on "independent growth" has essential difference from that of Guo Xiang. Guo Xiang denies the existence of "Dao" and its function, and his "independent growth" referres to a biochemical dynamic course; while Cheng Xuan ying, who is a Daoist, takes "nothing " and "Dao" as his essential belief, and his idea on "independent growth" is a kind of power, realm, which is the function and incarnation of Dao.
