Abstract This thesis probes into the main features and historical contributions of Mao Ze-dong's literary criticism, on the basis of viewing his literary theory and critical practice. The principle of "for the people", the distinctive political standard and the "struggle" are considered as the core ideas of Mao Ze-dong's literary criticism; And his ctirtical practice is the conflicting combination of his social-political criticism as a revolutionary leader and his aesthetic appreciation as a poet. Then it holds the view that it is of high necessity to study and expound Mao Ze-dong's literary criticism both for constructing literary criticism full of Chinese characteristics and for making contributions to the world Marxist literary theory.
