Abstract Why Tao Yuan-ming's personality has been admiring since then, the real reason does not lie in the way of his monk's life, but in his thought which he accepted the thought of Confucian, Taoism and Buddhism, absorbing their beneficial essence, and at the same time, surpassing them and dialectically dealt with them. His personality actually is the kind of ideal artistical aesthetic one which Chinese tradition scholars pursued.
