Abstract The type of AT1635A is a worldwide famous folklore story. This thesis, through the structural analysis of 51 transcripts of this type folklore stories, makes up their origin form and concludes that the place of origin is the middle-west of Hubei Province, China. On the basis of the analysis above, it points out that the reasonability of the formation and spreading of this type of stories, which, taking wisdom as its core, characterizes "cheating".
