| On the Publishing Activities of the Missionaries in China in 19th Century |

Abstract Chinese modern press industry started from the press hold by the foreigners in China. The earliest foreigners were some missionaries. Before the Opium War, some missionaries published several pieces of Chinese newspaper, which was the bud of Chinese modern press industry. From the 1940s to 1990s, a large number of missionaries got involved in the press industry and the number of newspaper increased rapidly. The publishing activities of the missionaries in China had great influence on the production and development of Chinese modern press industry.
