| Zhao Gong and Politics in the Early Zhou Dynasty |

Abstract The early Zhou Dynasty was characterized by both domestic and foreign conflicts. Under the guidance of his father, Wen Wang, Zhao Gong narrowly but successfully put down the Three Jian Rebellion and saved his fledgling dynasty. Zhao Gong also reinstated his authority in regions to the south through a series of military campaigns. He also established an eastern capital at Luoyi and learning from the violent and authoritarian methods used by the Yin rulers, promulgated the just idea of "rule of law." He passed on his power to his son, Kang Wang. Zhao Gong is clearly one of the most influential figures in the Early Zhou period and we should reevaluate the importance of his political contribution.
