Abstract Ma Duan-lin is a famous historian in Southern Song and Yuan Dynasty. His great work A Critical History Of Institutions (Wen Xian Tong Kao) is a great work about Chinese ancient institutions. The historical thought of Ma Duan-lin is very excellent, namely to seek the truth from facts, attach importance to law, think by oneself, regard innovation as positive change,and show unusual insight and judgement.
