Abstract Due to the 100th annuversary of Central China Normal University, this paper is to introduce the great deeds of an educator--Chen Shi. He is the founder and president of the first private owned university--Zhonghua University, in modern history. After liberation, Chen Shi contrituted this university to the government which later was combined into the ex body of Central China Normal University. This paper expounds Chen Shi's founding experience and his educational ideas and practice in details.
