| On the Custom Religions of Lingnan and the Southward Spread of Taoism |

Abstract The customs religions of Lingnan was a kind of peculiar folk culture. It had something kin relationship with Taoism. Its unsophisticated character and the numerous and jumbled witch corresponded with the spirit of Taoism. The totem adore and the immortal belief were in agreement on the belief of Taoism. It was advantageous to the Southward spread of Taoism. During Han and Jin Dynasties, Lingnan had become a town of military importance of the spread and development of Taoism. The kin relationship was an important factor.
