Abstract Chinese educational experiment has experienced two periods and six phases,which formed its own characteristics but with many defects. Now the time is ripe for us to review its journey over more than half century and sum up its experience and lessons.In doing so,we can doubtless help our current educational experiment get out of a judgmental dilemma caused by its deceptive prosperity,overcome a variety of reactions originated from its "plateau",and meet a brighter tomorrow in a more rational way.
