Abstract Christianity has undergone a process of challenge,adaptation and integration in modern China.Since the mid-1980's,Mr Zhang Kai-yuan,a famous historian,has begun a research on the history of Christianity in China.He has not only gained outstanding achievements,but also played a leading and promoting role in formulating theories and methods of the field.Mr Zhang views the history of Christianity in China as a cross-cultural dialogue,he illustrates the theological essence and values of religious spread in concepts of modernization,and rationally restores the original condition of the difficult process of Christianity's spread and establishment in modern China rationally.This paper offers some discussions and analyses on Mr Zhang Kai-yuan's academic thoughts on the history of China's Christian universities,domestic and foreign Christian educators,and the indigenization of Christianity in China.
