Abstract In the later Tang dynasty and the Five-dynasties,the famous Taoism theorist,Du Guang-ting,dissertated on the issue of cultivating oneself according to religious doctrine,which indicated that the Taoism immortal faith and practice opinion had become an important part of his Chongxuanxue ideology,and an indispensable link during the development of the Taoism theory for inner elixir.This valuable effort of combining Chongxuanxue and Taoist theory for inner elixir reflected the pursuit to unify the religion practice and metaphysics by the Taoism theorist of that time.
