Abstract The marriage complaints songs in The Book of Songs are the ones which men and women complain about each other of lewdness . It is said in The Rites of Zhou， meishi， the officials who are in charge of marriage， deal with the lawsuits of obscenity， while music officials have the duty of hearing the lawsuits. The music officials reorganized the lawsuits of obscenity into songs and poems， with the depositions of the lawsuits as poems and the voices as songs. These processes are the generative mechanism of the marriage complaints songs in The Book of Songs.
