Abstract Grounded on metaphorical conceptualization of human thinking and action and system theory， this paper divides discourse into metaphorical discourse and non-metaphorical discourse. In view of the different functions and modes of action of metaphors in discourse， metaphors are divided into “discourse metaphors” and “modified metaphors”.Discourse analysis is divided into two dimensions： the macro dimension and the micro dimension. By means of the classification， this paper constructs an analytical framework of metaphorical discourse analysis， and illustrates it with authentic examples of metaphors， aiming to promote the study of metaphorical discourse functions.
