Abstract:The changes of microfilaments in silkworm, Bombyx mori cells Which infected with a nuclear polyhedrosis virus of alfalfa looper, Autographa californtca were studied. No changes were observed during the early stage of infection. However, 48 hrs postinfection, when the polyhedrosis inclusion bodies occured within the nucleus, we found the number of microfilaments decreased and some of the microfilaments gradually disintegrated. While in the later stage of infection, the microfilaments gathered again. They rearranged to stress fibers in peripheral areas of the cell membrane or reformed irregular lattice. The phenomena we observed in insect cells infected with virus is very similar to that of vertebrate cells.
