Abstract：It is presented in this paper that, the system of mathematical symbols has such characteristies as assignation and normality, simplicity and accuracy, formulization, and stratification and systematization, and corresponding with the characteristics, it has the functions of transmiting mathematical ideas, simplifying mathematical reasoning, assisting mathematical thinking and self-generation.
