Abstract:One of the methods to control the concentration of pollutants of Lake Donghu put forth in this paper is diverting Changjiang River to quicken its water replacement. With balancing total phosphorus and nitrogen of the Lake and analysing the effects of sewage treatment, diverting project was shown nesessary. Three possible diverting schemes were presented. The diverting way as "discharging before diverting" was clearly displayed to gain an advantage over "discharging while diverting" by simulating their mixing mechanisms. To the former, based on mass balance, and considering the shape of the Lake, the lopographic angle in diverting gate, the time when diverting water particle mover over to the discharging gate along the main flow line, and that the dillution effect decreases by degree along the main flow line, a practical model was brought forward to forecast the effect of water replacement. Use was being made of the concept of "line of equal flow". With analysing silt discharge, the divertingtimes were designed.
