Abstract:This paper developes a microcalorimetric bioassay for acute toxicity based on heat evolution from insect cells,and discusses a reduction in heat production by cells reflects the inhibition of various biochemical reactions which constitute the insect cell metabolic processes.For methomyl,this paper also measures the concentration that is 50 % effective(EC50 ) in inhibiting heat evolution in heliothis zea.
