Abstract：A doubly degenerate four-level system has two electron transitions and two nuclear transitions. For this compound nuclear-electron system, it is possible to achieve the enhancement of the index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption for gamma-ray laser via quantum interference established by coherent optical driving of electron transitions.
