Abstract：Based on the review of GIS progress over last 40 years, the paper analyzed the effects of production practice, science and technology and social demands to the appearance and progress of GIS technology in the viewpoint of philosophy. The development laws of the unification between continuity and phase and the unification between differentiation and synthesis are discussed in this paper. It gives us some inspiration to promote the scientific research and GIS development in the future.
