Abstract：Young leaves of Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don which were used as explants, were cultured in medium MS supplement with different kinds, different concentrations and combinations of plant growth regulators. The results showed that: there was no callus when medium MS supplied with only KT. MS+NAA 0.5 mg/L+2,4-D(0.5 mg/L)+6-BA 2.0 mg/L was the optimum medium for callus induction. When cultured in the dark and the white light, the callus growth circles were about 27 days, and the growth curves were in the shape of "S". The cells grew more rapidly in the white light than in the dark.
