Abstract：The fact that geographical reality is essentially dynamic is widely accepted.Compared with the approaches to characterize geographical reality only by their static character in the past, more research work has been done in the field of spatio-temporal GIS, With the introduction of ontology as a new technology, This paper looks at spatiotemporal GIS in a new light. It introduces the basic of geographical spatio-temporal ontologies, which includes the primitive, property and representation model of temporal ontology and spatial ontology respectively. Then the research progress in geographical spatio-temporal ontologies is reviewed. The problems of current research are discussed and the future directions are pointed out.
