Abstract：SNMP is a network management protocol widely used currently with the virtues such as simplicity and easy realization, which has become the facto industrial standard in the filed of network management. However, with the gradual development of the network, the weaknesses of SNMP are increasingly appearing, it cannot manage the network efficiently now. To complement the weaknesses, XML-based network management is being put on the research agenda. According to the present condition and basic knowledge of XML, this paper gives the design of an XML-based Web management model of embedded systems is presented. It uses Web browser-server technology as its framework, its management mode is XML-based manager-agent, and it uses java technology for its platform independence and GUI interface. It provides a remote platformindependent management method of embedded systems for administrators anywhere and anytime. Then, the architectures of important components of this model are designed respectively.
