Abstract:The most arduous task of comprehensively building a modern socialist country still lies in rural areas. Rural tourism, as an important leverage and feasible path for rural revitalization, plays an important role in the comprehensive progress of agriculture and rural areas and the comprehensive development of farmers. Starting from the essential requirements of the Five-Sphere Integrated Plan in promoting Chinese modernization, the functions, shortcomings and optimization paths of rural tourism development in the context of Chinese modernization were systematically analyzed in this paper. The result shows that rural tourism has important functions in promoting high-quality rural development, ensuring the main position of farmers, enriching the spiritual world of the people, enhancing rural people’s well-being, and promoting green development in rural areas. At present, the homogenization problem of rural tourism is relatively serious and the principal position of farmers is not prominent. Cultural protection and inheritance are not sufficient and the mechanism for sharing benefits needs to be optimized with ecological environment protection facing challenges. In the future, it is necessary to promote industrial integration and innovation, cultivate diversified market entities, enhance distinctive local culture, protect the legitimate rights and interests of villagers, and improve the rural ecological environment.
