Abstract:In this study the effect of doped In in enhancing the photocatalytic activity of BiOCl nanosheets with exposed (001) facets was explored, including the crystal structure, morphology, light absorption and energy band structure. In doping was beneficial for the crystal growth of BiOCl nanoplates, the elevation of the conduction band, the absorbance of surface hydroxyl groups, and the separation of the photogenerated electron and hole. Under simulated sunlight irradiation, the In doped BiOCl exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity in degradation of sodium pentachlorophenolate (PCPNa), salicylic acid (SA) and methyl orange (MO). The photocatalysis mechanism results confirmed that In doping could not only promote the activation of O2 to produce ·O2(-) but also increase the surface adsorbed hydroxyl groups to produce more ·OH, and thus improved the photocatalytic activity of BiOCl. This study would provide a novel approach for preparing high efficient BiOCl based photocatalyst.
