Abstract:2-Methoxy-6-methyi-1, 4-benzoquinone(4a) and 2, 6-dimethoxy-3-methyl-1, 4-benzoquinone (4b) were prepared by a new method from 2-methylphenol and 3-methylphenol. The yield can be obtained in 74%, 65%. respectively. Their structures were identified by NMR, MS and UV. In addition, the mechanism of the substitution reaction of bromophenol with sodium methoxide has been disscused.
