Abstract:The Romance of Hulan River is the last masterpiece of Xiao Hong which marks the peak of her literary creation. The former studies were trapped in the paradigm of social criticism which over emphasized the novel’s rethinking of national character and its content. The researchers have not fully recognized the significance and value of the novel from pure literary perspective. The present study aims at exploring the true literariness of the novel in formal approach by seeking for the internal and implicit structure from the perspective of narratology. The analysis will focus on the following aspects,implicit author,narrative structure,plotting and the possibility of limited narration,the intentional structure of naivety and poetry and immature narrative perspective,as well as its sublimity of limited narration——“ my figure is above me”. And all these constitute the true literariness of the novel and leads to its immortality.
