Abstract:The diminutive of “r”(儿类)in Chinese dialects is rich in types and widely distributed. There are r-Tail and r-Suffixation in linguistic form. The diminutive of “r” is unbalanced in regional distribution, which is manifested in r-Tail in the South and r-Suffixation in the North. “Small quantity” is the most basic grammatical meaning of diminutive. Diminutive can not only represent the small quantity of things, but also indicate the lightness of actions, characters and the shortness of time.
