Abstract：Since the 20th century and under the influence of the concept of “human literature”， Chinese literature has relatively neglected the presentation of the physical nature. However，in ecological essays，the physical nature has been valued. The “stone” images have gradually become prominent and achieved certain development in the new era，especially in the 21st century. Chinese ecological essays deepen the understanding of the jade culture， help to understand the world， the people and the wisdom of life， and reinforce the importance of self-discipline and ecological consciousness. In narrative style，the stone writings in Chinese ecological essays emphasize dialectics， especially the mutualism between emptiness and substance (xu-shi)， the fusion of opposing forces， and the integration of emotion and reason， which penetrate into the physical nature，human nature and the Tao of the universe. So far there are still some deficiencies in the stone writings of Chinese ecological essays. To name a few， writers do not show enough subjective consciousness and ecological consciousness， the understanding of the physical nature is not profound enough， and there is a lack of classics， all of which invite further discussions.
